Icy Friday in Worcester....yuk!

So after being up since about 2 a.m. listening to the trees and major limbs crack and fall, we were finally able to survey the damage... can't use the front walk or stairs too well....
And the street overall definitely had that winter look. Now even though this is yukky (that's a technical winter term) we weren't hit 1/2 as hard as some of the surrounding towns. I know several people that have had to move in with relatives due to power outages and trees blocking many of the roads in the area But even though this morning was a disaster, we did have a Peapod delivery! We couldn't believe it when the Peapod Stop&Shop truck showed up at 6:25 a.m. So not matter what happens this evening (as long as the electricity stays on) at least we'll have food.....
Of course, we made sure the backyard birds had a food delivery as well....

It's amazing that just to the east of us, there's no sign of an ice storm at all...not sure what this signals for the rest of the winter.

  1. It is important to realize WE got off easy. We still have our power. Just up the hill from our house is serious and extensive damage, and just down Salisbury Street, less than a mile from where I write this: the power is out and the damage truly brutal. Once you get to towns like Holden (just 2 miles up Salisbury), you are talking "disaster area" plain and simple. One of the worst sounds to experience is the sound of trees in an ice storm: slowing but sharply cracking, then hearing the long slide as it moves through other trees and boughs, and finally the thundering crash. For several hours last night well into dawn, a major limb or tree seemed to be crashing about every 10 minutes. No exagerration.

  3. My mother lives off of Salisbury Street and she is the only one on her street w/ electricity. She has extenstive tree damage all around her house. The tree removal companies have such a backlog they told her Tuesday at the earliest.

I am glad to see you are okay and didn't have massive damage.

    Take care.

  4. Yikes! We only got rain. We have decided that New York is a tropical city and we don't want to hear people complain about the cold here any more.
